Lorry Speed Limits England WalesFrom November 1 2015, EU legislation will mandate the fitting of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems on most newly registered Heavy Goods Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.

According to Euro NCAP and ANCAP, the independent safety bodies for Europe and Australasia, AEB is already leading to a 38 per cent reduction in real-world rear-end crashes and proving to be the key to gaining the coveted NCAP 5 star safety rating.

AEB systems improve safety in two ways. First, they help to avoid accidents by identifying critical situations early and warning the driver. Secondly, they can reduce the severity of crashes which cannot be avoided by lowering the speed of collision and, in some cases, by preparing the vehicle and restraint systems for impact.
